Aims and Learning Objectives
Aim: The aim of this 75-minute on-demand webinar is to cover struggles clinicians encounter when trying to help their overcontrolled clients socialize and date. Hope Arnold will address appropriate behaviors for various life stages, family rules and enmeshments, as well as socialization skills deficits. You will learn how to apply ‘Let’s Make a Deal’, the RO DBT Dating Protocol and the Friendship Coaching protocol to tackle subjects like friendship making, dating, and even how to get your client to leave the house regularly.
Learning Objectives. After attending this webinar you will be able to:
- Identify and label the client’s maladaptive social signals that reinforce loneliness and block socialization.
- Describe the RO DBT Socialization Hierarchy.
- Apply 3 interventions to coach your clients into developing meaningful relationships and building intimacy: ‘Let’s make a deal’, the RO DBT Dating Protocol and the Friendship Coaching protocol.
- Prioritize solutions that help with socialization, dating, and intimacy building.
Content Level: this webinar is at the intermediate level: it is assumed that you have at least started Level 2 of the RO DBT Blended Learning program or have attended Part 1 of an RO DBT intensive training.
Target Audience: Mental health professionals who are applying RO DBT in their daily practice. We further strongly recommend that learners have at least started Level 2 of the Blended Learning program or have attended Part 1 of the RO DBT Intensive training.

Trainer Biography
Hope Arnold, LCSW, MA is a Supervisor and Trainer in Radically Open DBT (RO DBT). She began her RO DBT training with Dr. Tom Lynch, treatment developer, in 2016. Hope continues to attend intensive trainings throughout the country and receives regular supervision from Dr. Lynch. Hope is a co-creator of the RO DBT App for electronic diary cards and skills.
In her clinical work, Hope is the owner of Simply RO DBT serving Colorado, Texas, Utah, and Virginia. She specializes in overcontrolled personality disorders (Obsessive Compulsive PD, Paranoid PD, Dependent PD, Avoidant PD), eating disorders, autism spectrum disorders (special interest in female autism), and treatment-resistant disorders (depression and anxiety).
