I’m a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with 30 years of experience working in both the NHS and private practice. I specialise in supporting people who struggle with excessive self-control—often manifesting as chronic anxiety, perfectionism, emotional loneliness, or long-standing difficulties like treatment-resistant depression, anorexia nervosa, or obsessive-compulsive personality traits. My primary therapeutic approach is Radically Open Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (RO-DBT). I’m intensively trained in RO-DBT and have been closely involved in its delivery, supervision, and implementation across a range of clinical services in the UK. I’m passionate about this approach because it focuses on helping people open up, connect more deeply with others, and build a life that feels more authentic and fulfilling. I work with adults (17+) and offer individual RO-DBT therapy and clinical consultation for professionals or teams looking to integrate RO-DBT into their work. My style is collaborative, warm, and compassionate—always grounded in evidence-based practice. I will be starting an online skills class shortly so if you are interested please let me know. In addition to my clinical work, I regularly train and supervise other clinicians in RO-DBT, both nationally and internationally. Staying engaged with the growing RO-DBT community and current research is important to me, and I continue to learn and evolve in my practice. I offer in person (on request) and telehealth to my Michigan clients and only telehealth to my New York clients. I am also intensively trained in DBT (with behaviortech) and ERP (with CTSA of UPENN). RO DBT Clinics UK is a private practice partnership set up by Helen Brice, Alex Fowke and Ian Wootton who are all experienced and intensively-trained RO DBT therapists. We have been delivering a comprehensive RO DBT programme since 2017, and we have expanded our team to include a number of other intensively-trained therapists. The full RO DBT programme is available to anyone aged 18 or over. It comprises weekly individual sessions alongside 30 online skills training classes. In some cases we may be able to provide individual sessions only or skills classes only and would be happy to discuss this as part of the assessment process. We are able to work with families and partners to provide RO DBT-informed psychoeducational support. Individual RO DBT-informed treatment is available for those who are aged from 13 years, and a specific under-18s skills class will be coming soon.
