Description and Learning Objectives

Description: During the webinar, Dr Lynch will explain how autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is the quintessential overcontrolled disorder and how we can use neuroregulatory model to understand ASD's neurodivergent nature.

In addition, Luke Jordan, M.A., an RO Clinical Scholar RO with lived experience of ASD, will share his insights on how ASD impacts his life as well as how he learned how RO DBT skills help him live closer to his valued goals. Dr Lynch and Luke will also address the topic of 'masking' in ASD, and how RO DBT addresses this issue. Plus, RO Senior Clinician Gregory Peebles, MAC, LPC, will discuss a case example of using RO DBT with an ASD client.

Learning Objectives. After attending this webinar, you will be able to:

  1. Describe the overlap between Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Overcontrol (OC)
  2. Consider how RO DBT addresses the dilemma of neurodiversity, asking for change and the objection to 'masking'
  3. Discover how living with ASD and applying RO DBT skills have impacted an RO DBT therapist's life
  4. Use the 'Oh My Gosh' universal signal of openness and humorous vulnerability.
